Dog beds for small dogs

Small dogs need less foam, but they still love a snug, warm spot and a cover that survives the washing machine.
What to look for
- A snug fit. Measure your dog (see how to measure) and add about 10 cm. Many small dogs prefer a bed that feels cosy rather than huge.
- Gentle support. About 5–8 cm of supportive foam is a sensible starting point.
- Raised edges. Many small dogs like to curl up and rest their chin on a bolster.
- Machine-washable cover. Small beds often fit in a home washing machine. Check the care label.
- Non-slip base. Keeps the bed in place on tiles and timber floors.

Easy mistakes to avoid
- Buying a bed far too big
- Choosing a very thin pad, since small dogs still feel hard floors
- Forgetting to check that the cover can be washed
Quick question
Do small dogs need an orthopedic bed?
Any dog can enjoy a supportive bed. Support matters most for older dogs and heavier breeds. If you are worried about your dog’s joints, ask your vet.

A bed adds comfort and support. It does not treat medical conditions. If your dog seems stiff, limps or sleeps badly, talk to your vet.
