Measuring a dog with a tape measure

The most common bed mistake is buying the wrong size. A tape measure and a couple of minutes will fix that.

  1. Wait until your dog is relaxed, or lying in their usual sleeping position.
  2. Measure from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail. That is their length.
  3. Measure across the widest part, usually the shoulders or hips, while they lie down.
  4. Add 10–15 cm to the length. Dogs who stretch out should use the larger number.
  5. Check the maker’s weight guide too, since heavier dogs need more support.
  6. If you fall between two sizes, size up.
